Dwight Dee Luttrell

Dwight Dee Luttrell, 73, of Mountain View, Oklahoma, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on December 17, 2025. He was born on November 2, 1952, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, to Sammie Leroy and Fern Beatrice (Williams) Luttrell. 

Dwight grew up on a farm north of Mountain View where he was introduced to hard work at an early age helping his father on the family farm. He attended school at Cowden and then Mountain View High School where he graduated in 1970. Although a devout Oklahoma State fan, Dwight chose to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford in order to stay close to the farm to continue to help his father. Dwight earned a master’s degree in education. 

His love of people and education led him to the classroom, including at Lookeba, Sickles, Broxton, Mountain Park and Alfalfa. Dwight’s competitive spirit, together with his passion for making a positive impact on the lives of those he coached and taught, led to a long and successful career in public education. Dwight was promoted from basketball coach at Cyril to elementary principal where he made an enduring mark in the lives of countless students. 

Dwight would retire from Cyril but not from work, a defining characteristic instilled in him from his days on the farm. He held various jobs in retirement that allowed him to do what he did best: love people and make them laugh. He cared for families during times of grief as an apprentice for funeral homes, entertained customers as the manager of a bowling alley, and inevitably used his charm on the road selling salsa across Oklahoma for A&J Salsa Company. 

The charming and hilarious man we knew and loved, met the love of his life, Donna Henson, while coaching at Mountain Park, Oklahoma. They were married on May 1, 1982. Dwight was a devoted husband and father to his three children: Amy, Chyanne, and Laramie. Dwight was also the proud father of Dallas Caine Luttrell, who preceded him in death at the age of 2 years. Dwight was particularly proud of his nine grandchildren: Santana, Lexi and husband, Mason, Layken, Ameris, Carys, Adalynn, Rafael, Axel, and Colbie, and bonus granddaughter, Tammy. Known to the grandkids as “Peep,” Dwight attended every event, competition, and program that he could, spending countless hours tickling, teasing, and playing, making each one feel special. He loved them all dearly. 

Dwight enjoyed watching sports, cheering on his Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He loved horses, a good joke, playing cards with his sisters, Patricia and Laquetta, and always had time for good food. He was famous for his guacamole and tacos. 

Dwight was a devoted follower of Jesus, attending the First Baptist Church in Mountain View as often as he could. His faith in Christ gave him hope, especially following the tragic loss of his son, Dallas, and his granddaughter, Layken. It is because of his faith that he enjoys an eternal home free from the pain and health problems he suffered for many years.

Dwight is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna Luttrell, of Mountain View, Oklahoma; daughter Amy of Mountain View; daughter Chyanne Eastwood and husband, Kyle, of Mountain View; son, Laramie Luttrell and wife, Afton, of Mountain View; sister, Patricia Oltermann; sister, Laquetta Treadaway; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie and Fern Luttrell; son, Dallas Caine Luttrell; granddaughter, Layken Layne Luttrell; great niece, Sami Jo; and brothers-in-law, Dewayne Oltermann and Ronie Treadaway.
Funeral services were set for 10 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2025, in the Mountain View gym in Mountain View, Oklahoma.

Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain View, Oklahoma.
 Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, December 26, 2025, at Ray & Martha's Funeral Home in Mountain View, Oklahoma.
