Coeata Shinn was born in Alfalfa, Oklahoma, on September 14, 1937. She joined her husband of 45 years, Terry N. Shinn, in Heaven on December 28, 2025.
Coeata grew up on a farm in Alfalfa with her parents, Frank and Mary (Reid) King, and her 10 siblings. She graduated from Alfalfa High School, attended Oklahoma State University, and received her Elementary Education degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She taught elementary school at Fort Cobb and Carnegie. She always appreciated hearing from her students over the years.
Coeata enjoyed being involved in her community with her husband as class parents and volunteers for numerous events. She was active in the Carnegie Mother’s Club serving in leadership roles.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings - Lora Fullerton, Durward King, Arlo King, Geneal Bender, Darrell King, Reta Faye Luper and Reva May.
Coeata is survived by her two children – Angela Eder of Wolf Point, Montana, and Tony Shinn and his wife, Kelly, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Coeata adored her grandchildren: Libby Shinn Stoner (Marc), Taylor Shinn (Katie), and Candice Kirn Case (Michael). She is also survived by six great-grandchildren who always made her smile – Jace Fuller, Brieana Fuller, Hazel Shinn, Amaris Myrin, Tredway Shinn, and Mattox Myrin. She looked forward to getting to know her three step great-grandchildren – Jack, Ethan, and Kate Stoner. Coeata’s three surviving sisters are Vonna Garrett, Karen Nelson (Ronnie), and Janice King.

A Memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2026, at Quail Springs Baptist Church Parlor in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
