Libby Ware

Libby Ware, 83, of Mountain View, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Carnegie, Oklahoma. She was born on February 12, 1942, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Burton and Kate (Kalthchallah) Tonahcot. Libby grew up in Zodle-Tome community and attended school in Mountain View, Oklahoma.
After high school, Libby met and married Alfred Jr. Chalepah. Within this marriage, was blessed with five children: Elfreda, Spencer, Leslie, Kimit and Renita. Years later, Libby remarried Jerold H. Ware and through this marriage, took “Monique Michelle Ware” as her own daughter and helped raise her.
Libby enjoyed her plants and pets, along with a passion for cooking, baking and special occasions. Even when needed for “church camp meetings.” Throughout her life, she devoted herself to her faith, belief, and spiritual to her Lord and savior. She enjoyed all “Native church hymns,” “Apache Blackfeet” and “Crown Dance” songs.
Libby always had her home open to friends, family and anyone in need of a meal, drink or a place to rest. Her character of love really showed. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children: Elfreda Chalepah, Spencer Chalepah Sr., Leslie Chalepah, Kimit Chalepah Sr. Renita Chalepah, and Monique Michelle Ware; 28 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a special great grandson, Aaron Kaudle Kaule, who called her mom. She is also survived by a brother, Monroe Tonahcot, and sisters: Violet (Tonahcot) Bert and Delores (Tonahcot) Poafybitty, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burton and Kate Tonahcot; seven grandchildren: Gerrand Kaudle Kaule, Spencer Chalepah Jr., Kim Renee Chalepah, Olga Lynn Chalepah, Zachary Bearheels, Gerald H. Killsfirst and Ben.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in the Red Buffalo Hall in Carnegie, Oklahoma.
Interment was in the Carnegie Cemetery in Carnegie, Oklahoma.
