MVG girls net first-ever state crown

The Mountain View-Gotebo High School Lady Tigers’ powerlifting team etched their names deep into the school’s history books recently. The foursome of Ameris Espinoza, Sarah Evans, Kameron Geis and Hanna Porter teamed to win the school’s first-ever girls’ Class C state powerlifting championship on Feb. 10-11 in Enid.
Geis and Evans highlighted Mountain View-Gotebo’s efforts. A senior, Geis finished second in the 113-pound weight class with a mark of 495 pounds. Evans finished third in the 123-pound weight class with a three-lift total of 540 pounds.
Espinoza and Porter also did well. Espinoza was sixth in the 198-pound bracket, while Porter placed seventh in the 155-pound ranks.
In the boys’ ranks, Creed Tointigh and Daniel Essary both worked their way to fourth-place marks in their divisions.
