Wanda Faye Ridenhour
March 26, 2026
Wanda Faye Ridenhour was a longtime Spring, Texas, resident. She was born in Waldron, Arkansas, on October 22, 1946, to Marie and Edwin Ridenhour. Wanda passed to heaven on December 20, 2025.
The family of seven, two older brothers, two younger brothers and Wanda, moved to Mountain View, Oklahoma, in 1953, where a fifth brother was born. Wanda graduated from Mountain View High School in 1964 where she excelled in basketball. She began college in Weatherford, Oklahoma, continuing to play basketball, where she graduated in 1968. Wanda later obtained two masters degrees in education.
Wanda began her lifelong teaching career in Belle, Missouri, in 1968, and continued teaching also in Owensville, Missouri. In Owensville, she began their girls’ basketball program, advancing to the state tournament a few years later.
In 1980, Wanda moved to Spring, Texas, and began teaching and coaching at Humble High School. Wanda loved teaching and many students continued to stay in touch with Wanda over the years. Wanda retired from teaching although she continued to substitute teach at Humble for several years.
Wanda loved traveling and was fortunate to make several trips to Europe, Australia and New Zealand, as well as throughout the United States.
Wanda’s favorite riddle was “I have five brothers and each of them has a sister, how many are in the family?” She loved confusing many students with this question!
Wanda was a dedicated teacher and the matriarch of her family after the loss of their mother. Wanda loved and was close to all her nieces and nephews, as well as those pesky brothers, sisters-in-law and extended family.
Wanda befriended everyone she met – her students, her fellow teachers, neighbors, her mechanic, waitresses, yard and repair workers, the person next-in-line to her, and anyone at the next table in a restaurant. Like Will Rogers, she never met a person she didn’t like.
Wanda is survived by three brothers, Ralph and his wife, Marsha, in Yukon, Oklahoma, Don “Chuck”, in Richmond, Texas, and Glen of Woodward, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Anne, of Rosenberg, Texas; her nieces, Kim Bryant and Kelli Smith, both of Iowa Park, Texas, Heidi Jones of Schertz, Texas, Amanda Jackson of Tyler, Texas, Alisha Hack and Brooke Ridenhour both of Woodward, Oklahoma; and two nephews: Shane Ridenhour of Richmond, Texas, and Jason Ridenhour of Greenville, South Carolina. Wanda’s love for others was returned by her family and a host of friends which include fellow teachers and students.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Marie Ridenhour, and two brothers, Charles “Dickie” Ridenhour and Cotton Ridenhour; and one sister-in-law, Sue Ridenhour.
Contributions to honor Wanda may be made to the Mountain View, Oklahoma, cemetery fund at the following address: 321 Main Street, Mountain View, OK 73062, or the American Heart Association.
Our loss of Wanda leaves a big void in our hearts. Our comfort lies in knowing that Wanda is in the loving arms of Jesus and she is with family and friends who have gone before.
A service for Wanda will be held at the Mountain View Oklahoma Methodist Church on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery.
