Richard Paul Kauahquo

Richard Paul Kauahquo passed from this life on December 3, 2023, at the age of 84 in Hobart, Oklahoma. He was born October 3, 1939, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Ernest Kauahquo and Helen Ahtapety Kauahquo. He was the great-grandson of Chief Lone Wolf and Maunkee (Kiowa Bill). He was the grandson of Frank Kauahquo and Sarah Lone Wolf and Paul Ahtapety and Fannie Maunkee Ahtapety Onco.

He graduated from Hobart High School in 1957 and later went on to graduate from Okmulgee Tech with a Diesel Mechanics degree. This is where he met his future bride, Diana Genevieve Roughface. They married on January 2, 1960, in Hobart, Oklahoma. Richard went to work for Cummins Diesel in San Antonio, Texas, and later worked for Indian Health Services in Lawton, Oklahoma. They relocated their family to Hobart where he proudly worked for the City of Hobart Water Department operating heavy equipment for 27 years. Richard was very proud of his tribal heritage and served as Headsman with the Kiowa Tia-Piah Society for over 40 years. He also served on the Business Committee of the Kiowa Tribe for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard and Diana loved to go drive around on any given afternoon just to spend time together and go for a ride.

Richard is preceded in death by his daughter, Jobyna Kauahquo LittleCalf; grandson, Christopher Rudman; sisters, Ernestine Kauley and Beverly Caddo. He is survived by his wife, Diana Kauahquo; sons, Ernest Paul Kauahquo and Phillip Scott Kauahquo; daughter, Janice Beaver and son-in- law, Kevin Beaver, all of Hobart; adopted children, Daniella Nieto and Jason Tiger; as well as sisters, Fern Hammock of Anadarko and Freida Hudson of Hobart. Grandchildren are Sarah Kauahquo and her children Lani, Saray and Xxayden; Nicole Standifer and her children, Payton and Piper; Shannon Counts and her children, Payshince and Leviathan, Kyle Beaver, Michelle and Waylon Hamlett and their six children: Kaylee Stockton and her children Bryan and Bradlee.

Services for Richard Kauahquo were at the First United Methodist Church in Hobart on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. with burial at Elk Creek Tribal Cemetery. Visitation was on Thursday, December 7, with a wake service at 7 p.m. at Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home in Hobart.
