Kenneth R. Hawkins

Funeral service for Kenneth R. Hawkins will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024 at First Baptist East in Lawton, OK with Rev. Doug Passmore, pastor, officiating.

Burial followed at the Carnegie Cemetery in Carnegie, Oklahoma, under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. The service could also be viewed by following the livestream link at the First Baptist East Lawton Facebook page.

Kenneth R. Hawkins entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in Duncan, Oklahoma at the age of 72. He was born April 9, 1951 in Carnegie, Oklahoma, to Royce and Beatrice (Swanda) Hawkins. Ken grew up in Carnegie and was a 1969 graduate of Carnegie High School. Following graduation, he attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he earned his Pharmacy degree. He married his high school sweetheart, Leslie Lou Bolen on May 31, 1974, in Carnegie.

Ken moved to Lawton in the mid 1970’s, operating the pharmacy located in Humpty Dumpty Grocery Store which he later purchased, opening his own store, Ken’s Rx. Over the years, through building incredible friendships and lifelong partnerships, Sheridan Express Pharmacy and Eastside Pharmacy came to fruition. Ken viewed his customers as friends and took great pride in being their pharmacist, making himself available to help no matter day or night. When he was not filling prescriptions at the pharmacy, he was pursuing one of his greatest passions of farming. Ken grew up farming alongside his dad and that desire to work with his hands, growing crops and tending cattle was in his blood. Ken’s old Ford truck with hay spikes and dents could make the drive between Lawton and Carnegie on its own after the last 50 years. Ken’s most treasured pastimes were moments spent with his four grandsons, farming, vacationing and being their biggest fan at their various sporting events. Ken was an avid OU fan and anytime he shouted, “Boomer” it was expected, no matter where you were, to shout back an enthusiastic “Sooner!” Above all else, Ken was a Christian. He was an active member of First Baptist East and a true believer in Jesus Christ. Ken lived a life led by Christ and called by God to care for, to love and to help others, no matter his sacrifice. Ken’s legacy will live on through the hearts he touched and lives he had an impact on.

He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Leslie, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kena and Ryan Herring, Lawton, Oklahoma and QCarnegie, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Hudson Herring, Garrett Herring, Ken Whittington, Bradley Whittington, Jetta Mace, McKena Palmer, husband Dace and their son Rookie; three siblings, Carolyn Youngstedt, Lawton, Philip Hawkins and wife Carla, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Cindy Randolph and husband Bob, Piedmont, Oklahoma; his sister-in-law, Brenda Bolen, Edmond, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Youngstedt, preceded him in death.
